What the working does
The working does not locate an object, move it, or signal its position. It acts on the petitioner’s perception of places already searched.
In the large majority of successful cases the object is recovered by the petitioner, within their own dwelling, in a location previously searched. Petitioners are advised of this at consultation, as many find it unsatisfying.
Recovery most commonly occurs in the final hours of the ninth day. We have no account of why the ninth day.
Brought by the petitioner
A description of the object written from memory, without reference to a photograph. The place the petitioner last recalls holding it. The place they have searched most often.
Limits & refusals
One object per casting. Excluded: single socks, charging cables, the second of a pair of earrings, keys to a vehicle no longer owned, and any object lost in the course of a house move.
Term & afterwards
Ninety days from casting. Where the object is not recovered within the term, the fee is returned in full without application.
